Jane Birkin performs at the Barbican for the first time since her sold out show there in 2003. This rare event was hailed as "a magical concert" by the Times and the critics and audience followed suit. Tonight Jane presents her new show in which she continues to reinvent the songs that Serge Gainsbourg created for her as his muse and sings her own compositions from her new album Enfants d'hiver. Jane says “The poets do not die if one carries their words.” Unadulterated live magic.
Reviews from Jane's last performance at the Barbican in 2003:
“Birkin shines with confidence and pride, enjoying the familiairity of Gainsbourg’s songs and the freedom of the heady rhythms...A spellbinding tribute, a brave and unique finale to a brave and unique concert.” (The Guardian)
“Inspirational” (Sunday Times)
“ “Serge Gainbourg’s sexy gamine’60s pop ingenue is returned. And, if Jane Birkin stepped out of her long-time mentor and lover’s shadow years before he died, still she is happy to dance in the trace of his footsteps now. The kitten is grown, has dignified and become wise, though, you suspect, she remains at heart playful and free…Birkin’s voice remains a frail and breathy thing, still beautiful, sensual, joyous and sad.” (Time Out)
“Jane, je t’aime toujours.” (The Standard)

"Olde worlde acoustic outfit with a theatrical bent and a tendency to dress like 1930s Prohibition outlaws and a sound that takes in folk, country, blues, jazz and cabaret." (The Guardian - Band of the Day selection)
