Quinteto Astor Piazzolla
Quinteto Astor Piazzolla, the official legacy ensemble dedicated to preserving and celebrating the music of the legendary Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, will be performing at London’s this summer.
Formed in 1998 under the guidance of Laura Escalada Piazzolla and the Astor Piazzolla Foundation, this extraordinary ensemble continues the maestro’s mission of preserving and promoting his artistic legacy. Featuring virtuoso musicians Pablo Mainetti (bandoneon), Nicolás Guerschberg (piano), Serdar Geldymuradov (violin), Armando de la Vega (guitar), Daniel Falasca (double bass), and musical director Julián Vat, the quintet captures the essence of Piazzolla’s Nuevo Tango while exploring his vast repertoire.
Known for revolutionising the traditional tango with his innovative “Nuevo Tango” style, Piazzolla’s music combined elements of jazz, classical, and folk traditions to create a genre-defining sound. The quintet – featuring bandoneon, violin, piano, guitar, and double bass – was Piazzolla’s preferred ensemble for developing this transformative music.
Founded over 20 years ago, the Quinteto Astor Piazzolla continues to tour globally, earning critical acclaim and accolades, including a Latin Grammy for Best Tango Album. Their repertoire includes Piazzolla’s most iconic works, as well as rare and lesser-known gems, offering audiences a rich, virtuosic celebration of his genius.
For one night only, Quinteto Astor Piazzolla will bring their electrifying performance to London, revisiting timeless classics like Oblivion and Adiós Nonino while introducing listeners to the deep passion and innovation of Piazzolla’s music.
