‘The undisputed queen of contemporary Turkish music’ (The Guardian) returns for her third appearance at the Royal Albert Hall, bringing with her a band of some of Turkey’s best instrumentalists, with the jazz piano of Grammy-nominated Fahir Atakoğlu, evocative Turkish clarinet and cello, and dynamic percussion. The band, which has been touring with Aksu for the last couple of years, will perform old classics and new songs.

The prolific songwriter and amazing singer, with ‘a voice which rings true with each gorgeously stunning note’ (Goran Bregovic), is an icon in her home country of Turkey.

Aksu is fearlessly independent in her approach to musical style, with influences drawn from as far and wide as Ottoman classical music, chanson, folk music and pop. Aksu can easily move from hip-shaking dance rhythms to a 14th century Sufi devotional song. Her music is rooted in the folk traditions of Anatolia, but her own genius has in turn shaped contemporary Turkish music.
