Cuba produces some of the world’s finest ballet dancers. Renowned for their unparalleled honed, classical technique and impeccable style, Ballet Nacional de Cuba has a reputation for bringing classic ballets to life with characteristic Cuban passion. Making their debut at the Centre this May, this impressive company performs two appealing programmes; Magia de la Danza and Giselle to live orchestral accompaniment by Royal Ballet Sinfonia, the Orchestra of Birmingham Royal Ballet. Magia de la Danza is an indulgent night out. It’s a spectacular showcase of extracts from seven of the company’s most famous classical ballets including The Nutcracker, Coppelia and Swan Lake. It’s a sure fire bet for ballet lovers and those trying ballet for the first time alike.
For the full effect of Ballet Nacional de Cuba Giselle is a celebrated work in the company’s repertoire and is danced with all the vigour and passion they are famed for. This is an emotionally charged tale of a peasant girl who falls for a nobleman, which in the wake of tragedy, moves between the human and supernatural. In doing so it also brings audiences under its spell. The Centre is also proud to announce that the Wednesday 5 May performance of Magia de la Danza will feature a special guest appearance by Carlos Acosta; one of the Cuban company’s – and the world’s – most celebrated dancers.
