Gainsbourg Symphonic is a tribute to legendary musician Serge Gainsbourg by his muse and long-time partner Jane Birkin. Last year fashion icon, actress and iconic chanteuse Jane Birkin created the first ever symphonic concert in tribute to Gainsbourgs musical legacy, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of his death.

Serge Gainsbourg (1928 – 1991) was a pianist, composer, poet, actor, film director, and French cultural icon who was also known for his provocative words and outrageous behaviour. His countless hits covered every music genre from jazz to chanson, from pop to disco and new wave. Jane Birkin’s collaborations with Gainsbourg – as his long-time partner in both music and life – mean that there are few others who can lay claim to the same closeness and understanding of his artistic output. Birkin’s original inspiration for this project came from the fact that Gainsbourg had used classical music so often within his own music.

Gainsbourg Symphonic was jointly created by artistic director Philippe Lerichomme and Japanese composer, arranger and pianist, Nobuyuki Nakajima, who will also be performing as the piano soloist in this show.
