Seu Jorge
The Life Aquatic / Tribute to David Bowie + Family Atlantica Duo
Seu Jorge is one of Brazil’s most talented and acclaimed artists. Jorge first came to international attention as one of the leads in the film City of God, and then as the enigmatic David Bowie-singing sailor in Wes Anderson’s 2004 movie The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. In the film Jorge performs Bowie’s songs, including Rebel Rebel, Life On Mars? and Starman, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. In a deeply personal tribute, the Brazilian singer/songwriter puts on his red toque to take his audience on an emotional journey through his bossa-flavoured Bowie covers. These songs have never been performed in front of a live audience until 2016.
“Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese, I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.” David Bowie
“An intimate, anecdote-filled chance to hear these lovely renditions in person.” Hollywood Reporter
“His uncluttered arrangements called attention to the ingenious architecture of Bowie’s songs.” LA Times
In support, Family Atlantica Duo pair West Africa with Latin America’s Atlantic Coast, with a London beat firmly in the middle. Luzmira Zerpa is a traditional Venezuelan musician, poet and singer with a magical voice acclaimed by Manu Chao. She is accompanied by London born Jack Yglesias (The Heliocentrics, Quantic live): band leader, producer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist.
