Tulipa Ruiz + DJ D.Vyzor
Tickets will be available on the door from tonight at 8pm.
A rare London show for singer-songwriter Tulipa Ruiz, a musical force of nature from São Paulo.
Tulipa is at the forefront of a group of new female Brazilian singers – her unique voice is playful and theatrical, ranging from the light and balladic to more boisterous. Her organic, idiosyncratic indie pop expands on the stylistic impulses of the Tropicalia movement, melding a range of influences, and is grounded in her own brilliant compositions.
She made her musical debut with the album Efêmera in 2010, earning nominations for best album of the year in Rolling Stone Brazii and also in The Guardian and The Independent. She followed this two years later in 2012, with Tudo Tanto, and in 2015 brought out Dancê, her third album. Her music has appeared in telenovelas and as part of the FIFA video game soundtrack.
Her influences are wide-ranging: Baby do Brasil, Zezé Motta, and the group Rumo, and also the multimedia artists Meredith Monk and Yoko Ono as well as Joni Mitchell. This is an artist who loves to create, who understands the limitless possibilities of music.
