La Linea 26 poster stands as a visual cartography of cultural mestizaje, embodying the spirit of the festival. Through a symbolic and narrative language, the piece proposes a dialogue between Latin America and the United Kingdom, between territory and transit, between memory and transformation.
At the centre of the composition emerges a winged beetle, an ancestral symbol of rebirth and metamorphosis acting as a metaphor for the union of diverse Latin American imaginaries. Within it lies the city of London, depicted through its diverse architecture: from Victorian and Georgian to Brutalist and contemporary. This urban landscape, crossed by the Greenwich Meridian, serves as a symbolic axis of cultural and temporal orientation.
The beetle’s wings unfold in geometric patterns inspired by butterflies and moths, tinted with vibrant colours that evoke the textiles, rhythms, and visual languages of Latin America. Each surrounding element expands this symbolic geography: • The maize cob alludes to abundance, identity, and community. • The condor represents freedom and the spiritual link between earth and sky. • The frog, associated with fertility, symbolises transformation and connection with nature.
• The sun radiates energy and the continuity of life.
• The labyrinth circle suggests an inner journey and the union between the earthly and the spiritual.
• The Andean cross evokes balance between the human, natural, and sacred realms.
At the base, a tropical garden flourishes, where the jaguar —a traveller and emblem of Latin American cultural exchange— coexists with a ship’s air vent, a metaphor for the movement and mobility that define London and its River Thames as a global artery of connection.
Speakers arranged like buildings evoke modern architecture and the city’s sonic pulse: voices, accents, and music intertwined in a symphony of diversity. At the centre, the Mitad del Mundo Monument creates a counterpoint to the Greenwich
Meridian, establishing a symbolic balance between hemispheres. Inside it, a compass points to our horizons, reminding us that every encounter also involves a choice of direction.
On either side, two pedestrian posts topped with suspended globes reflect the notions of movement and perspective: north and south, origin and destination, memory and present. The seagull and the white nunbird , one a traveller of the sea, the other a grounded observer— complete this poetics of transit, balancing flight and rootedness.
The brick texture in the background symbolises collective construction and urban transformation, both in London and across Latin America. Over it, a gridded circle evokes the invisible patterns that weave cities and the traces we leave as we inhabit and reshape territory.
Between tropical flora, European architecture, and symbolic fauna, La Línea 26 proposes a collage that narrates the encounter between geographies, memories, and sounds. The beetle, as the central figure, becomes a bridge between worlds — an emblem of cultural vitality renewed through every crossing and every shared rhythm. More than a poster, this work is a visual metaphor of contemporary Latin American identity: diverse, hybrid, and in motion. La Linea 26 thus draws a living map of cultural connections, reaffirming the power of art as a space of encounter in the heart of London.
